This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Even an end has a start

You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave
With hope in your hands
And air to breathe

and! I! feel! FINE!

It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine…fine…

So it appears that I can cut my journey time into work by at least 30 minutes everyday. I can also take a route without having to make a single change.

This will involve me getting into the office earlier and leaving the office later but still leave home and arrive home at around the same time…

Hmmmm

We also expect to hear about material layoffs at AOL in the next six weeks, possibly as much as 15% of the 16,000 strong workforce. Next week the senior execs are supposed to be notified of the exact size of the cuts and whether they are targeted to specific business groups or across the board cuts.

Okay..now really sleep. My eyes hurt and my head hurts…work email may have had something to do with the latter.

I tell you what though for something else entirely, I’m *really* pleased with myself today.

We can play charades when there is nothing to say

So this evening things were going much better. My eye is still quite sore but it’s staying open and the swelling seems to have gone down…for the most part.

But I think I may have taken this a little too much for granted and spent some time catching up online. I even spent some time on work stuff this evening because I felt guilt (I’m typing mail in another window!) about leaving stuff undone for something so small. Guilt, fuck man what’s happening to me?

I’m not sure I’ll go in tomorrow, I think it’ll really depend on the morning. I suspect if I have a headache and both my eyes hurt from 90 minutes or so on the screen this evening I’d be better off just doing a full morning’s work at home, take a while for lunch and see how the afternoon goes. There are some leaving drinks on tomorrow that I’d really really like to get into but it’s not like I’d be drinking anyway, I don’t believe booze mixes well with prescription drugs but more importantly I certainly don’t intend to test that.

Oh yes I’m an idiot. The thing that had changed was I started to leave my window open overnight. My bed is right under my window and it never struck me until the other day that I started sleeping badly around the time I stopped closing the window. I shut it the other day and slept really well. Last night, I forgot (I think the drugs are actually hitting me harder than I thought, actually I thought that in hindsight of my typing last night too so yeah they must be) and I didn’t sleep well.

Other things which are great: Huff great cast, well written with a pretty good sense of humour. It’s no Arrested Development but then again what is?

Oh back to work and touching on a slight bug bear of mine. We’ve recently moved to Exchange servers. This means that we all have new email addresses. It’s a very standard firstname.lastname@

Now take a second here please, take a look at the top of this page, take a look at the URI, take a look at the header. Okay, now think of my email address. Be it my home or my going 8 year old work email address for the few of you that have that. Okay pop quiz!

What’s my first name?

The only time I use David is when I’m travelling, it’s on my passport and so it’s too much of a hassle to write anything else (Thank you America!). So for almost 8 years I’ve been using an email address that starts with Dave, I’ve been using an IM name that stats with Dave, every pass I’ve ever had for work in any office says Dave…why the fuck would you go and write an email to david.bushe@ and expect me to actually receive it? *le sigh*

Right few more bits for work and then sleep.

Oooh wait, one more thing. For all of you not on Facebook and/or my flatmates virals:

Firstly who are you and why on earth are you reading this???

Secondly, here is her latest video. Perhaps best watched without the volume*. 9am on Saturday mornings are pretty much reserved for sleeping and so I missed this shoot. Uh not sure if more can be said at this point but you might see something more on this fairly soon.

*NB, I joke. I’m sure it’s great…just not for me and I’ve heard it alot over the past few days!

You came on your own, and that’s how you’ll leave.

*Yawn*

Ended up in the pub last night to catch up with Nick. We hadn’t been out in a long long time and well events of the day conspired to ensure we’d be in need of some venting time in the evening.

So we went off the beaten track a little to the Kensington in order to play some pool. So it was a very quiet evening, at least to begin with. We played about an hour of pool while taking it quite easy on the drinks. This was not good tactics as I never reached my second pint, must concentrate a little more edge and rather shamefully lost four out of five games.

Not good. We decided we’d sit down over the next pint and so took a little break. After a while, and another 2 pints it was time to go back to the pool table. Then I am very pleased to report the score changed ever so slightly and I won six games in a row to make the final score for the evening 7 - 4 in my favour. Nick didn’t want to play anymore at that stage but I felt much better.

Going back for another correction, Jean writes in on the question of the word “sex” in Irish.

…gnéas means sex as in Male/Female, not as in sexuality. As far as I know (and remember it was nuns that taught me all I know as gaelige) there is no Irish word for sex meaning sexuality/sexual orientation etc.

So there we go then.
