Snowpocalypse!

I’m in a hotel in Queens I think. Well I know I’m in a hotel (Holiday Inn Express, not too expensive, very clean and free wireless!). It seems that snow in DC and New York and tons of other places along the east coast has canceled most flights. I should hopefully get into DC sometime tomorrow afternoon. I’m scheduled for a 3pm flight but they can’t promise anything and suggest I arrive 3 hours before..
Here is something I wrote a few hours ago:
It’s now five past nine on Sunday evening. I’m sat in JFK airport waiting for my flight. Outside the snow is falling and inside many people waiting for flights are struggling to understand why the ground staff can’t stop the snow and get their planes in.
I’m on an hour delay at the moment, down to DC seems fine for now and there are 3 other flights headed to either National or Dulles this evening so with luck I’ll be on something.
I have had a most excellent time here. I’ll expand on much of it over the next few days but I’ve really enjoyed myself. Simply being in a real city was such a nice change. To be able to simply walk the streets and have buildings around was almost like a novel concept to me. To have shops and restaurants and bars and even sidewalks was just so nice.
I’d only been to NYC once before. I spent 2 days here in early 2000. I was rushed at the time, it was a quick stop between a few days in DC and a week in Toronto. I recall enjoying it a whole lot and wanting to come back but I can’t figure out why it took so long to do so. I stayed somewhere near to Time Square and did rushed tourist stuff. I did the Statue of Liberty which was ok but I recall not being too impressed. Then I had the choice, time wise of doing The Empire State or the World Trade Center. I did the latter and had a most enjoyable lunch up there enjoying the sights of the city. Suffice to say I’m very glad that I picked that one.
I was still a bit rushed this time around but that was just me being me and wanting to do as much as there was. So by Saturday I was totally shattered but happy enough.
I’m going to go and wander back towards my gate to see what’s going on with my flight.
Tons and tons of photos to come soon.
